Valor in Battle, Beauty in Creation

Arsène is a former knight of Ishgard, serving under his House's banner and leading a regiment of knights during the war. He is now patron of the arts and sciences, and head of House Rosellain. He was disabled in the course of his duties by a rather gruesome leg injury. After the conclusion of the Dragonsong War he took up painting and became something of a scholar to pass the time, as all the members of House Rosellain have always had a love for art, music, and science.

Arsène's wife, and mother to three daughters with him. Born in the Coerthan Lowlands, she lived with her family on a small homestead near Dravania. Before the Calamity, they were excellent chocobo raisers and handlers, and so were contracted by Ishgard in rearing and training their warbirds. Arsène and Ella married in an arranged marriage in order to help House Rosellain's finances. This was a boon for the House, as the services of Ella's chocobo rearing paired with House Rosellain's fervent service to Ishgard and Halone were enough to bring the name back into grace.

Renata eldest daughter of Arséne and Ella. She is the most traditional of the family by far, and was the only of the Rosellain children to have served in the conflict against Dravania, as she was the only one old enough to do so. Since the conflict's conclusion, she has struggled to adapt to civilian life, but is currently expected to be the next head of House Rosellain once Arséne finally retires from this role, even over Arséne's only son. Despite this, she seems to have a rather aggressive rivalry with her half-brother, who she seems to see as something of an obstacle to her leading the House, despite the man's disinterest in the prospect of taking on that role himself. Much to his chagrin, despite only being a few days older than himself, Renata has taken to referring to referring to her half-sibling as 'little brother' at every opportunity she finds.

Odette de Rosellain is the middle daughter of the family. She would be considered a dilletante by many, though she has a particular love for singing and acting, and is an opera singer professionally. Through a strange twist of fate, it was she that met her father's bastard son - her half-brother - and became close enough with for them to find common ground and eventually discover that they shared a father. She is a remarkably good person at heart, and will always have room to help a person in need. She was just too young to serve in the Dragonsong War, but would not have even if she was of age, due to her distaste for violence and war. It was at her behest that House Rosellain assisted House Haillenarte in the Firmament Restoration project, the Rosellains lending their love for the arts and sciences to help the project proceed apace.

Florianne de Rosellain, youngest daughter of the family. As the youngest daughter, she was too young to serve - and has some rather bad memories of her family's flight from their manor during the conflict in the area. As a result, she stays mostly to herself in the estate in Ishgard. She is considered to have a very bad temperament, and does not respond very well to attempts by others to know her. Many of Ishgard's doctors have labeled her as 'troubled', and as a result, her parents have mostly allowed her to do what she will. Despite her mental health troubles, she finds solace in the conservatory of the Rosellain estate, tending dutifully to the greenhouse's plants - One of the few things that seems to bring the young woman solace.

Born as a bastard to Arséne and a Dravanian Miqo'te woman before Arséne was officially married, this enigmatic man was only somewhat recently reinvited to House Rosellain, to take his place as a proper son of the House, and of Ishgard itself. It has caused quite the uproar amongst certain circles of nobles, with some outright condemning the induction of someone like Vex into a noble House. He is a controversial figure, to say the least, and many rumours have been started about him in the time that he has returned to the city. It is for this reason that he does not typically spend more than a few days in Ishgard at a time, and tends to keep his identity mostly concealed whilst there. Some more rare rumours claim that he was a resident of Ishgard before being invited back to his true House by Arséne, though these seem to be mostly unfounded. His carrd is here.
House Rosellain is a somewhat distant branch family of House Haillenarte, formed when Arséne's distant ancestor married into the family. This distant ancestor's love for roses and his ability to grow them beautifully led to the House being christened Rosellain. Historically, they have been excellent warriors as well as being painters, musicians, and creators, eventually adopting the family motto of 'Valor in Battle, Beauty in Creation'. House Rosellain enjoyed a long tradition of bearing excellent knights as well as contributing to the culture of Ishgard with their art, music, and creations, but entered into somewhat of a decline just before the most recent ignition of the now-concluded Dragonsong War, made even steeper by House Haillenarte's - and by extension, House Rosellain's - loss of the Stone and Steel Vigils. Having lost much of the family to these assaults on the Vigils, including the Lord of the House - Arséne's father - the young man assumed his place as the Head of the House. After this, the new Viscount sought to reclaim glory for his family, along with his daughter and the remaining knights still loyal to the house. It was through great effort that Arséne rebuilt House Rosellain, along with help from his wife, Ella's, contributions of coin to the family war coffers through her work breeding and raising warbirds for the military. Though the family's love for the arts and science was to be put on hold for this period, they became well-known for training excellent knights and knightesses, Arséne himself personally overseeing the training of plenty of well-honed warriors using the very same techniques passed down to him by his father. They revered the Fury, of course, and would vow to uphold their oath to Goddess and country. At the end of the War, once the truth was revealed that King Thordan had been keeping the great secrets of the War, and Isghard herself, hidden from the masses sparked a rather goodly bit of outrage in the House. Arséne and his eldest daughter, Renata, were crushed, along with many of the knights they had trained up. With the War's sudden end, as well, the need for warbirds decreased, and Ella was no longer able to provide as much of a boon to the family's finances as she was before. It wasn't until the middle daughter of the family, Odette, reinvigorated the family's faith and love for art by encouraging them to remember the family's motto - Valor in Battle, Beauty in Creation. Since there was no longer much battle to deepen their valor, she said, they should look to find beauty in creation. It was this suggestion that led to House Rosellain once again delving into their other talent - the arts and sciences. Engaging heavily in the restoration of the Firmament, the remaining members of House Rosellain reminded the city of Ishgard that they were creators and artists, as well. Now once again contributing to the humanities of the city and beyond, they found a new fortune in the beauty of the world, rather than in battle. And yet, no House is truly complete without scandal. At the close of the Firmament's restoration, House Rosellain underwent a bit of a shock - It was rumoured that Arséne had added a new family member - A long-lost bastard son, and a Miqo'te to boot. Just days younger than the eldest daughter, Renata, he was born out of wedlock to a Miqo'te woman of Dravania, or so they say. It has been the topic of much gossip and debate within certain noble circles, recently, and though the rumour has all but been confirmed by this point, there are still those who are blissfully unaware of this raven-haired and silver-eyed heir. Despite tradition of the House states that the eldest living son of the family must one day secede his father, many expect that Renata, the eldest daughter, will one day take on this role instead.
